If you were not informed by the airline at least 14 days before departure, you may be entitled to compensation ranging from €250 to €600.

The rights of air passengers in case of flight cancellation within the European Union are governed by Regulation (EC) No. 261/2004. Here is a list of the main rights of passengers in case of cancellation:
Airlines must inform passengers of cancellations and their rights to reimbursement, rerouting, and assistance.
In case of flight cancellation, passengers are entitled to assistance while waiting for rerouting. This includes meals and drinks proportional to the waiting time, two phone calls, fax or email messages, and, if necessary, accommodation in a hotel and transport between the airport and the place of lodging.
Refund: Passengers are entitled to a full refund of the ticket cost for the unused part or parts of the journey, and for the parts already completed if the flight no longer serves the original purpose of the trip, within seven days. This may also include a return flight to the first point of departure as soon as possible.
Rerouting : Passengers can choose to be rebooked on another flight to their final destination as soon as possible or on a later date at their convenience, subject to seat availability.
Passengers may be entitled to compensation ranging from €250 to €600, depending on the flight distance and the notice given regarding the cancellation. Compensation is not due if the cancellation is caused by extraordinary circumstances that could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken, or if the passenger was informed of the cancellation at least two weeks before the scheduled departure date. The compensation may be reduced by 50% if the rerouting offered allows arrival at the destination with minimal delay compared to the originally scheduled arrival time.
Always remember that requesting a refund for a canceled flight does not obligate you to give up the compensation you may be entitled to under EU Regulation (EC) No. 261/2004. These two rights serve different purposes and can be claimed independently under certain conditions.
If your flight has been canceled, you have the right to request a full refund of the ticket for the part or parts of the journey not completed and for the parts already completed if the flight no longer serves the original purpose of the trip. This may also include a return flight to the first point of departure as soon as possible.
In addition to the refund, you may be entitled to compensation if the flight cancellation occurs without adequate notice and is not caused by extraordinary circumstances that could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken. Compensation ranges from €250 to €600, depending on the distance of the flight and the specific circumstances of the cancellation.
The right to compensation is independent from ticket reimbursement.
Receiving a ticket refund does not automatically exclude the possibility of also receiving compensation, unless you specifically accept a form of compensation that explicitly excludes it (for example, some vouchers or benefits offered by the airline may have terms that preclude further compensation claims).
If you believe you are entitled to both a refund and compensation, it's important to clearly communicate this to the airline when making your request. If you encounter difficulties with the airline or feel that your rights have not been respected, you can contact the relevant national authority in the EU country where the incident occurred or in the EU country where your flight departed for assistance and guidance on how to proceed.
If the airline does not provide the assistance measures stipulated by EU Regulation (EC) No. 261/2004 in case of flight cancellation, such as meals, beverages, two phone calls, accommodation in a hotel, and transportation, here's what you can do:
Keep all receipts and documentation related to expenses incurred for meals, drinks, calls, accommodation, and transportation that should have been provided by the airline. This will be crucial for any refund claim.
Contact the airline directly, providing specific details of your cancelled flight and a list of the unprovided assistance. Attach all receipts of the incurred expenses. Specify that you are requesting reimbursement for these expenses as per Regulation (EC) No. 261/2004.
If the airline does not respond or refuses your refund, you can file a complaint with the relevant national authority in the EU country where the incident occurred or in the EU country of departure. This authority can assess your case and, if necessary, intervene
It's important to act promptly and provide all necessary evidence to support your claim. Understanding your rights and having accurate documentation are crucial to ensuring the airline fulfills its obligations.
Only a few air travelers are aware of their rights, and many of them lack the legal understanding necessary to claim compensation for flight delays. Even if they are aware of their rights, the process of requesting compensation from airlines can be challenging.
